King Throop appears to be a short, older human in his fifties, at first glance. It's at second glance his gnomish heritage can be seen. He has a bushy blue-grey beard, and wears gold rimmed glasses. He has a subtle voice, easily spoken over.
Throop's demeanor is a bit scattered, but that is an affectation; he pays attention to everything going on around him at all times. However he learned long ago that those around him were far more guarded when he was obvious about it. So, instead, he pretends to be an oblivious, scatterbrain, and is content to let people see him as such.
King Throop has never been very interested in romance, or romantic entanglements. He's never had any interest in physical relationships, and save for a young man growing up who was interested in him, he had practically no experience until very recently.
Gerald's wife, a young gnome in her late twenties, is quite shocking juxtaposed with her husband. She has long bright orange hair, and is incredibly attractive. She also is singularly focused on her husband. The two of them met at an official function, and they ended up talking for nearly ten hours the first night. When she learned he had zero attraction to her, and yet had noted not just her favorite drink, but had taken a brief moment they were seperated to learn all he could about her, she decided then and there that she would find a way to turn his head.
In the end, she managed exactly that, not just becoming queen, but becoming his partner in all things. She prides herself at how well they work, despite the two of them having wildly different needs. The fact that the King is now a father to two children a year apart is entirely unexpected to him, but she sees it as "only natural" for the two of them.
Throop has a long friendship with Queen Ratha. The two of them feel like outsiders among the other rulers of the Kingdoms, as neither had any intention of ruling. They were friends ever since Ratha's younger days. Back then, she was the only one to ever listen to what he has to say, let along take in seriously. The two have been through a lot together, and consider each other a trusted ally, no matter what the circumstance.
At first, Ratha was suspicious of Gerald's romantic interest, trying to explain to him the concept of a "gold digger", or anything even remotely close to what she feared the woman to be. In response, Queen Throop announced she was leaving for Kelir, and would not return until Ratha accepted her. And true to her word, she spent six months getting to know the Kelir Queen.
Queen Ratha now describes her as, "Perhaps the most drive, earnest, and loving person I've ever met. I would not just trust her with my life, but my people's."
