The Kivuli were one of the last races created, and part of the reason for the sundering of the world. They are beings of pure magic, tied directly to the Magical Cosmic Force.
The weakest Kivuli is as strong as one of the strongest Dragons or Celestials, in a magical sense. Combined with their unfortunate involvement in the sundering, Kivuli tend to be distrusted or sometimes outright shunned by other Magical creatures. This has had the effect of keeping their population very low, and pushing most Kivuli into solitary lifestyles.
Because of this, Kivuli value family above all else, believing that family is all that one can truely rely on in the world.
Kivuli look very much like Elves, save for two exceptions. The first is they all have glowing blue to purple eyes. the second is, their dark purple skin is covered in black runic tattoos from head to foot. The amount of covering depends on several things (see Abilities below), but they glow a intense blue when the Kivuli is using their stored magical potential.
While Kivuli skin tone is always in the blue to purple hue, and thier hair tends towards white or silver, otherwise their morphology is as varied as Humans.
As stated above, Kivuli are beings of pure magic. This means that they are capable of just about anything other magical entities are capable of. They can easily perform the same feats that Celestials or Infernals perfom.
What's more, Kivuli naturally store excess magical energy in markings on their skin (the "tattoos" over their bodies). With training, a Kivuli can control how much energy they're storing, and therefore control the amount of energy stored. If they are especially good, they can control the locations of their bodies the markings appear, allowing a Kivuli to pass for an Elf, albeit an Elf with glowing blue/purple eyes.
Kivuli are especially susceptible to the Living Realm. Unlike Celestials or Infernals, they cannot cross over to the Living Realm, no matter how much they try. Should a Celestial or Infernal serve as a bridge, allowing a Kivuli into the Living Realm, they would be draining of their immense magical abilities quickly, having a matter of hours before they had to return or die.
Additionally, unlike other magical creatures, Kivuli have no Life Force in them; their magic energy is their life. As powerful as they are, the more they use their abilities the more they risk dying. Should they ever fully drain their magical energies, they would immediately die.
Note: It is believed that their markings may not be "excess" storage, but rather is simply a visible representation of the amount of magical energy they currently have; if so, a Kivuli devoid of markings would immediately die.
Kivuli barely existed before the sundering of the world. Since then, they have been shunned and scorned for their part in what was certainly not their fault. Because they never knew the world before the sundering, most believe it to have been an idealic paradise. After Veza's attempts to have them elliminated, Most Kivuli feel bitter towards the Living Realm in general, and Veza specifically.
Kivuli are believed to be working closely with Umumtu towards reunifying the world.
As the race that inadvertantly caused the sundering, the Kivuli are treated a bit like outcasts. Most beings simply aren't sure how to relate to them, or how they should react. There was never time for the other races to form an opinion of them before they became the vehicle of the sundering. Most just try to keep a polite distance.
Since Kivuli have had very no relations with the Living Realm since the sundering, they care very little about the races that live there, or the events that happen there. The one exception is that they have always found Humans to be incredibly intriguing and attractive. Even the most stoic of Kivuli can have a mild obsession with all things human, even if they won't admit it. This supernatural interest is the subject of many a heated debate among the other races, but the Kivuli simply accept it as a part of their existence.
The Non-magical races, for their part, know of the Kivuli through myth, but no personal contact.
Kivuli? They're the ones who supposedly broke the world? Yeah, I dunno. Feels like they probably got the short end of the stick for something that wasn't their fault. I mean, I've love to meet one some day and ask...
For good or for ill, they are the mythical race that Umumtu created on her own. That very act of sacrilege is what broke the world, nothing more. I feel for them, conceptually, as knowing Umumtu, they've probably been abandoned. I hope, whereever they are, they can find some solice in their existence.
Who? What are you talking about? Ooooh, right. I never thought they were real, honestly.
A being of pure magic each one capable of rivaling the powers of the Goddess of Magic herself? I know nothing of them, but if they have even a shred of honor, I will be the first to challenge one of them. Then we'll see what they're truly made of.
Did you know I wrote a three hundred page treatise on the subject of the Kivuli? Personally, I think they're more a construct used to explain something more fundamental that caused the sundering; the idea that Humans and Kivuli sundering the world simply by meeting seems absurd. Rather, it's my belief that— Oh, you'd rather read the paper? Very well, let me find it for you...
The other magical races struggle to know how to relate to the Kivuli.
The Kivuli are a race born of our Mother's despair at the passing of one of our own. We can't help but feel some of the burden for the state of the world is our fault. the Kivuli do not deserve to bear the full weight of sins which are not theirs.
Haven't they done enough? They were a mistake, plain and simple. I, personally, feel they should simply stay away from anything they can break.
Damn, those guys have it rough. They're so dedicated to fixing something that they didn't break; they've been working with us real hard since Umumtu decided to start searchign for Veza. They're more singleminded than we are, and that's saying something. I like them, well enough, but they could use a lesson ins what humor is, honestly.
